Volatility is a top concern as US Treasury rates dropped .12% on Friday and increased by .8% today. The discovery of a new COVID variant is responsible for the volatility. News broke last week that this new variant originating in South Africa had already migrated to Western Europe. This news caused investors to sell stock and move money into treasuries which are considered a safer investment. This caused yields to fall on Friday. President Biden gave a speech this morning intimating that the new variant may not be as severe as earlier outbreaks and will not cause another round of lockdowns in the US. This news has caused the stock market to soar as money moves back out of treasuries and into stocks.
